“Welcome to our Swedish school in Andalucía, a small white pearl, located a couple of hundred metres from the nine kilometres long beach. The school is small and today includes around 200 students and 40 employees. Despite this, our school is the largest Swedish school located in a country outside of Sweden and it offers a lovely climate in a culture with endlessly much to offer, experience and enjoy! “ “We work accordingly to Swedish regulations and decree in each school form and we follow Swedish laws as much as possible. Our school year basically follows the Swedish one, but with respect for the Spanish holidays. We start school a bit later in the year since August is a very hot month.” “Since our school is a small one with small classes of about 20 students, the teachers have possibilities to get to know each student and give them an individual attention. We strive for an individualized education where each student has their own development plan.” “Coming to our school as a student should be a possibility to get to know new friends, to learn to learn, to develop one’s speech skills, to continue to be curious, to have a liberty of speech and thought and to be respected for who you are in a safe environment. These are some of our objectives. In our school we strive to make more subjects intelligible entireties, a balance of theory and practice, creativity and fantasy.” “It should be fun to go to school! The school is run as a parents’ cooperative, which contributes to making the process of decision shorter. Our main goal is to work closely with parents. We host pedagogic evenings and parental meetings several times each semester.” “All students start their school day at 9 a.m. and end it at 3 or 3.20 p.m. The compulsory school and High School have a somewhat reconciled schedule with at least 120 minutes of Spanish each week at all levels. Compulsory school also has a bit more English and Swedish, compared to the average Swedish school.” “Our school is a different one, since you in the school yard can meet both a three-year-old from pre-school and a 19-year-old from the last year of high school. At our school in Spain, all students speak Swedish and the teaching is in Swedish. We also have a handful of Spanish speaking employees which work as Spanish teachers, P.E. teachers and janitors.” “It is important that both the Swedish employees and the students learn Spanish in order to be a part of and participate in the Spanish society! In school, we of course learn about Spanish culture, society and nature.” “The most important development areas at school are integration and internationalisation. Many of our students become really good at the Spanish language. They are then offered the opportunity of studying Spanish according to the Spanish curriculum, something that gives the students possibilities in studying at all Spanish spoken High Schools and Universities. The development of languages is a very important part of today’s global reality!” “The employees, parents, students and not least our guest students are all ambassadors for the school. This is why we have developed a common view on knowledge, learning and rules of comfort. We want our school to offer a beautiful environment and a comfortable and safe atmosphere with mutual respect in order to stimulate learning and social development. We also agree on having the world’s best food with an international kitchen which can prepare the best in anything from meat to fish and vegetarian meals.” “In our school, the students reflect based on their own experiences and use these reflections in the fields of research and theory to draw their own conclusions. The students make use of their teachers’ knowledge in order for themselves to enter deeply in and widen their own knowledge! Our modern school gives an education that stimulates the continuous learning all throughout life.” |
